Thanks to many Ferndale, Oak Park and Pleasant Ridge residents who turned out for our impromptu picture session.  In addition to nearly the entire city council and our county commissioner, our very-short-notice appeal drew families, seniors, and all manner of present and future Friends, nearly a hundred in all.  Thanks, too, to Ann Warner, who is not only the President of the Library Board but also the artist behind the camera lens with the patience to wait while we all gathered, waved and shouted.

If you should encounter Ferndale Friends editor Steffie Loveless as she bikes around Ferndale, suggest to her that this picture would make an excellent front cover for our almost-namesake in the world of journalism.

On Friday our Library Director Doug Raber did a fantastic job of talking up our new library and putting it into a broader context in a great interview with WDET.

You can access the audio here:  http://wdet.org/rss/archives/listen.php?show=72&date=1273809600

The interview with Director Raber starts at the 13 minute mark.

Book Parties live on! The Ferndale Public Library’s 5th book party will feature You Shall Know our Velocity, by Dave Eggers. It is the story of two friends who set out on a adventure around the world with the main purpose of giving away large sums of money to those deserving, as vaguely planned as is stated here.

Borrow a copy from your local public library and meet us at the Emory!

Thursday, May 13th, 7:30pm
Light snacks will be provided and if you show us your library card, your first drink is on the house.

Look forward to our future Book Parties every other month–we will feature a Michigan Authors Series next!

Where: Ferndale Public Library 642 E. Nine Mile

When: Library hours May 1 to May 15

What: General Fiction, Biographies, Kids and Young Adult, Reference

A few small notes:

  • The library is not (yet) taking donations for future sales, but that day will soon come so hold on to them.  We will post here once we have space to store sale materials.
  • This sale will not need Friends help–the last one without active Friends participation.
