Join the Friends for a community challenge to warm you up through the chilly winter months, doing what we know how to do best — reading! Starting January 1st, compete against your friends, family, and fellow Ferndaliens to read 5,000 pages. Audiobooks, ebooks, and regular ol’ paper books count toward your total.

We will have three races this year.
5K: Adults who complete 5000 pages
Kids 5K: Kids who complete 5000 pages
Fun run: Anyone who don’t quite hit their goal, but had fun reading

Download your reading log HERE. Or pick one up at the circulation desk. Keep an eye out for further news and ‘water stations’ throughout the challenge. Submit your completed form(s) to ferndalefriends.org@gmail.com or the library circulation desk by April 5, 2024 for the chance at a prize!

Friends of the Ferndale Library is a nonprofit organization with 501c3 tax-deductible status. We help support the Ferndale Area District Library’s mission of strengthening the community by providing access to materials and services that inform, enrich, entertain, and empower.

Friends Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 pm at the Ferndale Area District Library and on Zoom. The public is always welcome.

What we do:

  • Sponsor cultural, artistic and educational programs, and special events at the library
  • Sell donated books and DVDs, as well as our own swag in the Friends Bookstore
  • Provide funds for special collections and library services

Check out the video here to hear Friends president Ed Burns talk through our excitement to give back to the library, and the community, as we rounded out the year! Then scroll through this page to see what we bought.

Awhile back, we thought we’d put together a cookbook of Friends’ favorite recipes. We asked for contributions, and got a lot of good ones. Alas, we didn’t end up with enough to meet the minimum recommendation of our cookbook publisher. We do still want to share the recipes we got, and acknowledge the kind folks who sent them in. So we’ve created a web page. We hope you’ll try some of the recipes, and let us know how they came out. Friends Recipes
