Many many thanks to those who attended last night’s fantastic party and especially to those Friends members who made it happen, those local businesses that contributed generously to the cause and many many more. As lovely as the new library is, it pales in comparison to the beauty of the community that assembled last night and will continue to gather for years to come!
Next up: The Grand Opening which, permit permitting, will happen on July 10. More on that soon!
Thanks to many Ferndale, Oak Park and Pleasant Ridge residents who turned out for our impromptu picture session. In addition to nearly the entire city council and our county commissioner, our very-short-notice appeal drew families, seniors, and all manner of present and future Friends, nearly a hundred in all. Thanks, too, to Ann Warner, who is not only the President of the Library Board but also the artist behind the camera lens with the patience to wait while we all gathered, waved and shouted.

If you should encounter Ferndale Friends editor Steffie Loveless as she bikes around Ferndale, suggest to her that this picture would make an excellent front cover for our almost-namesake in the world of journalism.
Thanks to all those who showed up at the library for Sunday’s afternoon of fantastic music and poetry, crepes, coffee, wine and roses. The day of Sant Jordi is our new big day and next year will be even bigger and better. Thanks especially to Elie Boudt and Nuria Garrote i Esteve (http://www.eliewine.com/) for their incredible generosity in making it all possible. We are deeply grateful.
And so from one Sunday to the next, we invite everyone to a one hour meeting on April 25th from 3pm to 4pm to learn about the library and to become involved with the Friends group that will bring it alive. Here are the facts:
Be the first on your block to learn about the new library and about specific ways–both big and small–that you can help the library and build connections with your neighbors.
Start enjoying the benefits of membership with Friends discounts for the June 25 Sneak Peek Gala, and a raffle of free Sneak Peek tickets and other valuable prizes (including one provided Elie Wine).
If you lend us your ear, we’ll provide the popcorn and lemonade and story time and babysitting for your kids.

The Maltese Falcon
The Friends of the Ferndale Library is the oldest friends group in the state of Michigan but not always the most active. That’s about to change. Our new library is opening in about half a year and when it does we hope once again to have one of the strongest and most dynamic Friends groups in the state.
But first things first. We could use your help on one specific task. As part of the Big Read grant it received for this year the library needs our assistance in affixing labels to several hundred copies of The Maltese Falcon that we received for distribution to Ferndale residents. There is not much time, but the work should not be onerous. Those who are interested, can stop by or call the library or email Darlene Hellenberg at d.c.hellenberg@gmail.com.
