Join Our Winter Reading Challenge!

Kickstart your reading goals with Ferndale Reads! Formerly known as Book It to Your Couch 5k, Ferndale Reads is now a multi-part challenge, occurring between January 1 through March 31, 2026.

Celebrate the end of this challenge on Saturday, April 11th at 1pm at the Ferndale Library where winners of all three challenges will be selected!

Ferndale Reads Three Challenges:

Join the Friends for a community challenge to warm you up through the chilly winter months, doing what we know how to do best — reading! Starting January 1st, compete against your friends, family, and fellow Ferndaliens to read 5,000 pages. Audiobooks, ebooks, and regular ol’ paper books count toward your total.

Readathon 5k – Read 5,000 pages before March 31st (audiobooks count too) Reading logs can be downloaded below or picked up at the Circulation Desk of the Ferndale Library.

Readathon “Fun Run” – Read any number of pages before March 31st. You could read one book or ten. This is a great option for kids and anyone who won’t be able to complete 5,000 pages during the challenge.

Bookstore Passport – Ferndale is lucky to have five bookstores in our city and this is your chance to visit them all. Stop at any of the following book stores to pick up your passport, then visit all five to get a stamp in your passport.

  3. Library Bookstore – 169 W 9 Mile Rd
  4. John K King Books North – 22524 Woodward Ave
  5. Whistler’s Daughter Books – 703 Livernois St

 

Pick up a bookstore passport and stop by all your favorite Ferndale bookstores

Download your reading log to keep track. Or pick one up at the circulation desk. Keep an eye out for further news and ‘water stations’ throughout the challenge.  Submit your completed form(s) to ferndalefriends.org@gmail.com or the library circulation desk by April 4, 2026 for the chance at a prize! 

Then join us on April 12th at 1pm for our Finish Line party! Connect with other Friends, discuss books on your TBR list or your favorite from the challenge, get a certificate for completing one of the Readathon and winners of all three challenges will be selected.

Prizes available include gift cards to all five participating bookstores and Friends swag!
